Julianna's Famous Bread Sticks

I made these yummy bread sticks the same night I made the drumsticks. These bread sticks are so good I first had them at one of my parent's friends house and I asked her for the recipe, and she said it was in the Ward Relief Society cookbook. They are crispy on the outside and soft and doughy on the inside....yum. I know doughs and breads can be intimidating  but these delicious bread sticks are so simple to make even my brother could do it.
Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon Dry active Yeast
  • 2 tablespoon Sugar
  • 1½ cups warm water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3½ cups flour
  • ½  stick of butter
Directions

In mixing bowl combine yeast, water, and sugar and let bubble

* Make sure you read the directions on the back of the yeast package. and warm the water to the temp on the package. I went through a couple of yeast packets because I either had the water too cold or too hot. And if it's too hot it will kill the yeast cultures, and if it's too cold it won't activate the cultures.

To the yeast mixture add the salt and flour and mix well.  Knead and make sure it is combined really well and let rise for 1 hour.

After dough has rested and risen, melt butter in a cake pan. Roll Dough into rectangle. Cut into 10-12 strips using a pizza cutter. Dip in butter and twist. Place in pan. Brush a little more melted butter on top, top with anything you'd like (ex: seasonings, garlic salt, Parmesan cheese etc...) Bake in a preheated 400 F. oven for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
